LITTLE ITALY

A glimpse into the history of Little Italy in Sault Ste. Marie. In the early 20th century, Sault Ste. Marie grew rapidly as an industrial hub, drawing thousands of Italian immigrants into steel, paper, railroad, and mining work. Their labour underpinned the city’s expansion, even as they endured long hours, low pay, and deductions for basic medical care and insurance. Click through the slideshow to learn more about the history of Jamestown.
