Help us preserve the history of Francophones in Sault Ste. Marie.
Aidez-nous à apprendre et à préserver l'histoire des francophones du Sault.
Discover the Francophone Heritage of Sault Ste. Marie Did you know that Francophones were the first Europeans to explore and settle in Sault Ste. Marie? Our city’s name itself is French, meaning “the rapids of St. Mary”. Francophones have played a vital role in shaping the history and culture of our region for centuries. However, their stories and contributions are often overlooked or forgotten. That’s why the Sault Ste. Marie Museum, in partnership with the Centre Francophone de Sault-Sainte-Marie, has launched a project to collect and preserve the history of our Francophone community.
We need your help to make this project a success. We are looking for any oral histories, documents, or objects that relate to the lives and experiences of Francophones in Sault Ste. Marie. Whether it’s a family photo, a newspaper clipping, a souvenir, or a memory, we want to hear from you. By sharing your stories and artifacts with us, you will help us create a rich and diverse picture of the Francophone heritage of Sault Ste. Marie. You will also help us ensure that this heritage is not only preserved but also celebrated and shared with the public.
If you are interested in participating in this project, or if you have any questions, please contact us at: 705-759-7278 or c[email protected]
We look forward to hearing from you and learning more about the Francophone history of Sault Ste. Marie. Thank you for your support!
