Summer Youth Workshops
Cyanotype Youth Workshop: This youth workshop will offer a brief history on photography and photographic processes and will culminate in a cyanotype workshop where youth will have a chance to make their own cyanotype photogram prints. These beautiful blue prints are made using sunlight and found ecological materials (flowers, grass, rocks, etc), and they are fixed in water. Appropriate for ages 6 & up, children under 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult. All materials provided. Pre-registration required - 6 spots available. Animation Youth Workshop: An intro to hand-drawn and stop-motion animation. This workshop will start with a look through the Through the Lens exhibition, then breakout into a hand-drawn animation workshop using flip-books to create animation using entirely analog processes. Afterwards, youth will use these same animation principles to create simple stop-motion animations. * Camera or camera phone are required. Appropriate for ages 8& up, children under 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration required - 5 spots available. Photography Youth Workshop: Composition basics and a photography scavenger hunt are just part of what we will cover in this introductory photography workshop. Youth will learn how to take their photos to the next level, framing their subject, setting the mood, and creating dynamic images. Landscape, portrait photography and still life will all be covered. * Camera or camera phone required. Appropriate for ages 8 & up, children under 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Adult Photography Workshops
Through The Lens Photography Workshops: Thursdays 5-6pm Ages 18 + | 5$ per workshop | Camera or camera phone required.
Composition Basics: August 13th from 5-6pm Learn the basics of photographic framing and composition to take your photos to the next level. This workshop will help participants to take dynamic, impactful photographs by employing a range of compositional techniques. We will help you set a mood or tone, create emphasis and contrast, and draw in the viewer.
Manual Photography: August 20th from 5-6pm Learn the basics of manual photography in this workshop that offers participants an overview of ISO, shutter speed and aperture/dept of field. Learn how to use each of these settings, and when to use them, in order to achieve your desired results.
Lighting and Documenting your collection: August 27th from 5-6pm This workshop will introduce participants to staging still-life objects for photo documentation purposes. Techniques covered will include methods for documenting 2D and 3D items, and can be applied to artwork, collectibles, antiques and more. We will learn how to work with natural light, reflected light, and artificial light sources and will cover 3-point lighting. We will also discuss best practices for media management and digital file storage.
