Are you the relative of a person from Finland who spoke Swedish? Are your ancestors from the west coast of Finland, from the areas around Korsholm, Jakobstad or Pedersöre? How about the Finnish archipelago Åland, or around Hango or Ekenäs? Does your Finnish surname sound Swedish, or end in a -holm, -berg, -quist, -lund, -strom, -blom or -son?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, this genealogy workshop/information session might be for you!

Join us at the Sault Ste. Marie Museum to dive into the culture and history of the Findlandssvesnk; the Swedish-speaking Finns who settled in the Algoma district. Learn about the history of the Swedish language in Finland, the community of Finn Swedes in the Sault and surrounding area, and how to begin tracing your family’s roots through census, church and immigration records in both Canada and Finland.

This workshop is a partnership with the Sault Ste. Marie Museum and the Swedish-Finn Historical Society.

Unsure if this workshop is relevant to you? Contact the Sault Museum!

DATE: Friday, October 3rd
TIME: 2 PM - 4 PM
LOCATION: Sault Ste. Marie Museum, 690 Queen St. E.

This is a free event!
