What we are looking for? 

  • Objects, photos, videos, music, audio recordings, documents, or stories of historical significance to Sault Ste Marie, or the broader Algoma region.
  • Artifacts that we don't already have in our collection.

Do you have something that you could see in the Museum?

What to include in the email: 
  • Your name & phone number
  • A picture of the item you wish to donate 
  • A written physical description 
  • Any provenance or  historical information that you know about the item (Where the item came from, who it was owned by, age of the item etc.)

COVID-19 History

The Sault Ste. Museum is looking for your help in documenting the COVID-19 pandemic and how it has affected the people and communities in the Algoma District. The Sault Ste. Marie Museum aims to collect the stories and artifacts of the city of Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma District, with emphasis on items that were made by or used by our community. We are looking for your help to document and illustrate how COVID-19 has affected us close to home. While everyday has become a significant time in our personal history, we are asking for your help to document this time.

Community Stories: Our Neighbourhoods

The Sault Ste. Marie Museum is undertaking a project to create and develop informative exhibition pieces regarding the various neighbourhoods and their development, alongside the development of Sault Ste. Marie as a community. We will be creating these pieces for all the neighbourhoods identifiable in Sault Ste. Marie. We aim to allow for our community to better engage with our local history, including significant developments and important people who made Sault Ste. Marie the city we live in today.

Preserving Pride in SSM

We at the Sault Ste. Marie Museum know that there is a vibrant and storied LGBTQ2S+ community in the Sault and there has been for many years, however, our collection currently does not represent that.

The Stories of Northern Life, is podcast brought to you by the Sault Ste Marie Museum sharing the heritage of Northern Ontario and the culturally rich stories in everyday life.
Bringing the events and people of the Sault’s past to new light and capturing the stories of change-makers in our Northern Community today.

125+ Years of Jewish History in Sault Ste. Marie

The Sault Ste. Marie Museum has partnered with Congregation Beth Jacob to begin collecting, preserving and contextualizing Jewish history in Sault Ste. Marie. This process began with the recent exhibition at the Museum; ROOTED; 125+ Years of Jewish History in Sault Ste. Marie.
​Together, we are aiming to create an accessible database of Jewish history in Sault Ste. Marie. 

Collecting Finnish History

The Sault Ste. Marie Museum is undertaking a project to collect artifacts and archives connected to the vibrant Finnish community in Sault Ste. Marie. These donated objects will help us supplement and contextualize the current Sault Ste. Marie Finnish Historical Society Collection, which is now housed at the Museum. We aim to create a working database for the community of local Finnish businesses, genealogical information, immigration records and information on the many Finnish social groups.
